As tourism to the Philippines increases, much of the focus is around two islands. One of them is Boracay, which I discussed in a previous post. The other is Palawan, located west of Cebu, which is consistently ranked at or near the top of the best islands to visit in the world. Sadly, I didn’t get the chance to experience Palawan during my time in the Philippines. However, with almost 7,200 islands to explore, there are plenty of hidden gems.

Along with swimming with whale sharks and canyoneering at Kawasan Falls, there are many other adventures my coworkers and I enjoyed while in Cebu. Some coworkers parasailed, while others took mermaid swimming lessons. In this post, I’ll be sharing my experience zip lining as well as sky biking.

One of the biggest tourist attractions in Cebu City is Magellan’s Cross. The famous explorer first landed in the Philippines in 1521, on his voyage around the world. The cross he planted on Cebu Island signified the arrival of Catholicism in the Philippines.

Perhaps the most well known destination in the Philippines is the island of Boracay. Located in the Western Visayas region, the beautiful island is about a 45 minute flight from Cebu City. Despite being in the Philippines for 16 weeks, I didn’t think I would get the chance to visit Boracay, as my schedule was 5 days on, 2 days off. Luckily, our schedule got moved around for Election Day, and I had a 3 day weekend to work with.

As I mentioned in Part 2, most of the companies that organize whale shark tours to Oslob also include side trips to Tumalog Falls and Kawasan Falls. Both of these have their own entry fees, but are typically included in the organized tour cost.

One of the first things I wanted to experience on one of my weekend excursions was swimming with the whale sharks. It’s one of the things Cebu is most famous for and it’s something I’ve wanted to do since researching the Philippines.
